The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., held a "Sustainable Seafood" event on March 20 and 21.

A book and bag signing by Charlotte Knox and an evening of tastings were followed by a morning of discussions led by Alton Brown, ending with a five-course meal. All the attendees--some 1,500 in all--were given a tote bag illustrated and designed by Charlotte Knox. All the publicity, posters, and even the menu for the luncheon were also illustrated with Charlotte's fish paintings—the sustainable ones!

Greg Clarke illustrates a new picture book

Dutton Children's Books has just released, "How to Raise Mom and Dad" by Josh Lerman with watercolor illustrations by our artist Greg Clarke. The picture book features an older sister showing her younger brother how to train their parents to get what he wants.

Greg Clarke writes, "When this manuscript came across my desk, the timing was fortuitous. I loved the premise of a big sister schooling her little brother in the fine art of parent rearing. But more importantly, the kids in the book were my kids--two kids roughly the same ages (and gender order) as my own, and with the same arch view of their parents. And it was well written to boot. It's not often I get to collaborate with my children on a job, with Greta and Julian ultimately serving as technical advisors throughout the sketch and finish phases."

Kirkus Reviews says, "Clarke illustrates each recommended course of conduct as a set piece, nicely strung together as pearls of sisterly wisdom," and School Library Journal writes, "The gouache [sic] illustrations are as joyful as the text." "Greg Clarke's whimsical depictions add to the humor," says Scholastic Parent and Child Magazine.

What Cats Are Made of by Hanoch Piven is on sale now

Atheneum, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, has just published What Cats Are Made of by our artist Hanoch Piven. The other titles published in this series are What President's Are Made of and What Athletes Are Made of. Hanoch had great fun working with Ginee Seo, the editor, and Ann Bobco, the art director, illustrating the different cat breeds with objects. He started the book catless last year, but now owns a cat named Blau. The book includes interesting information about each type of cat and general feline facts. The cat on the cover is a Devon rex, a mischievous cat that's been compared to a monkey because of its climbing ability.
