Eraser Fun by Jared Andrew Schorr

As a lark, and who knows it might become a habit, I’m posting an illustration that speaks to me louder than others. In this case Yipee is an example of Jared Andrew Schorr’s unconventional sense of humor combined with his distinctive technique and typography. Who knew erasers had so much fun!

NPR 2011 Calendar illustrations by Ed Parker and Jared Schorr

NPR is now selling its 2011 calendar, which includes illustrations by our artists Ed Parker (July) and Jared Schorr (January). All the artists were asked to illustrate the question, "What does NPR look like to you?"

Ed Parker says, "These calendars are used to raise funds and awareness of the programming on National Public Radio. 12 Illustrators from around the country were asked to come up with concepts based on their own NPR preferences and listening habits. As a folk musician and an artist, I listen to much of the Folk, Celtic and World music on several NPR stations in Maine and the Greater Boston area. The idea of the diversity of music as a unifying element of our national culture and identity was the concept behind this illustration."

Jared, or Mr. January as he likes to be called, says, "I'm a long-time listener, first time illustrator. The radio is where we all began listening to NPR. Regardless of where I listen now, it will always be a radio program to me. It was an honor to work on the NPR calendar."

We have a limited number of the calendars available—email Eileen@heflinreps.com if you'd like to receive one.

Heflinreps e-promos

Since January of this year, we have been sending out email promos based on the current month. Artists create the illustrations specifically for this purpose, and we will continue to release them through the end of this year. It's a great way to connect our potential customers with our artists' portfolios and individual websites. Each one also lists some of the current events and special projects for the month.

We started with "January Jones" by Owen Freeman, and the February illustration was "The Shortest Month" by Paul Rogers. Jared Andrew Schorr illustrated "March Hare," and Greg Clarke created "April Fish." "May-September Romance" by Meilo So was the fifth illustration, and Beegee Tolpa's "June Bug" is going out next week. If you'd like to be added to the list to receive the promos, please send Sally a message at sally@heflinreps.com.

Poketo.com sells wallet designed by Jared Schorr

The Poketo online store is now selling a wallet designed by Jared Schorr as part of a series of cut paper wallets. The first picture shows the outside of the wallet, and the second is the interior. Janet Lee of Poketo interviewed Jared on the Poketo blog about his design. He said, "I wanted to do a wallet with a lot of monsters running and having fun, kind of like a Ryan McGinley photo. You don't really know what is going on, but you wish you were there. Though the monsters are running for their lives, they are still enjoying themselves." To read more of the interview or to purchase the wallet, visit the Poketo website below.

Jared Andrew Schorr illustrates for the New York Times and BUST magazine

Jared Andrew Schorr created six illustrations for this year's New York Times online Holiday Gift Guide. He did one illustration for each of the categories of Electronics, Books, DVDs and Video Games, Dining and Home, Music and Theatre, and Style. He also cut out the banner for the guide. Jared enjoyed working on this fun project. He likes the way the header and icons look clean and simple, but they still look distinctly cut out of paper.

Jared also illustrated an article for the current issue of BUST magazine. It is called, "It's My Life," and, it's a guide to dealing with the many phases of life, including marriage, childbirth, and death. The illustration in the magazine really pops and does its job of drawing the reader into the article. The type works well with the image to create a cohesive, enjoyable article.
