Heflinreps e-promos, last 6 months

Since January of this year, we have been sending out email promos based on the current month. Artists create the illustrations specifically for this purpose, and we have finally completed a full calendar year. It's been a great way to connect our potential customers with our artists' portfolios and individual websites. Each one also listed current events and special projects for the month and in some cases giveaways (we used to call them promos).

Kicking off the summer was Penny Dann's Knee High by the 4th of July, then the inimitable Rutu Modan's Dog Days of August, then reluctantly gliding into September's Harvest captured touchingly by Netalie Ron-Raz, followed by the late nights and bright lights of the World's Series in October by Dennis Balogh's portrait of the no-hitter phenom Roy "Doc" Halladay, then onto a more somber yet fascinating celebration Day of the Dead by Sonia Pulido and finally Roy Fox's Merry - the only way to summarize December!

Sonia Pulido's solo exhibition in Barcelona

Gallery CMTV in Barcelona, Spain, is now showing Sonia Pulido's Picnic! exhibition until October 23. This is a new gallery working with some of the most interesting artists on the current scene. Most of the work is collage, but Sonia is also including her "Death in the Maiden" comic series. Sonia published these in her catalog, Separar Por Colores, which accompanied her solo show of the same name at the comic convention in Seville last year. The last two pictures show Sonia's studio when she was preparing the collages for the exhibition.

Sonia Pulido teams with Pere Joan for a new graphic novel

Ediciones Sins Entido in Spain has recently published the new graphic novel, Duelo de Carocoles (Snail Duel), with illustrations by our artist Sonia Pulido. Pere Joan created the story about seven friends who get together for a meal. Two of the friends argue over their respective methods of cooking snails. It starts out in a country house on a mountainside and then moves to a nearby cove.

37th Huesca Film Festival poster has art by Sonia Pulido

The 37th Huesca Film Festival is using Sonia Pulido's art for the poster for the international event. The film festival is in Huesca, Spain, and runs from June 4 through 13. Sonia's poster reflects Sonia's fascination with 3D films and pays homage to the 1940s and 50s. Sonia is on the left in the picture of the press conference.

Heflinreps American Illustration 28 Winners

Our artists Alex Gross, Tatsuro Kiuchi, Paul Rogers, and Sonia Pulido have had artwork selected for the AI 28 annual book due out in November 2009. Miguel Gallardo also had pieces chosen for the website.

Alex Gross has a series of four mixed-media paintings on antique cabinet photos from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Two of them were also selected for Communications Arts 50, along with three other cabinet cards and two paintings.

Tatsuro Kiuchi has two works selected: an image from "The Sea, The Sea" by Iris Murdoch and "Kazuhiro Kiyohara, The Last Superstar," from Sports Graphic Number magazine. Tatsuro recently illustrated "The Sea, The Sea" for the Folio Society in the UK. "Kazuhiro Kiyohara" was also chosen for CA 50 this year.

Paul Rogers will have "Nobody Plays Handball Anymore" published in the annual, an image from his sketchbook. He was in Greenwich Village last year and saw this playground roller-hockey game, and the scene reminded him of the great playground scene by Ben Shahn called "Handball."

"Friends" is the title of Sonia Pulido's selected illustration from her personal work. Miguel Gallardo had two images chosen for the AI 28 website. Miguel's first chosen piece was "Melancholy," published in La Vanguardia's Sunday magazine. Miguel got his inspiration from Dali's soft watches and DeChirico's illustrations of sadness. His other chosen piece was "VIPs in Hollywood" published in LA Confidential magazine.

Heflinreps Welcomes New Artist Sonia Pulido

Sonia Pulido has recently joined our illustration agency. Sonia lives in Spain and has illustrated for Anaya, Les Editions de la Cerise, El Pais newspaper, and Rockdelux magazine. She likes to have a series of elements that evoke stories in the observer, allowing many different interpretations.
